Who is subject to the notification obligation?

All producers of certified organic products who want to use the Bio-Siegel to label their products must register these products before the first use.

Retail outlets that sell products with the Bio-Siegel and do not label or otherwise prepare products in accordance with the EU Organic Farming Regulation do not have to register.

Product Notification

The Eco Labelling Regulation ( Öko-Kennzeichenverordnung - only available in German) stipulates that the Information Centre Bio-Siegel must be notified of all products that are to be labelled with the Bio-Siegel before the first use of the label. All producers of organic products who want to use the Bio-Siegel must register and send a sample label (attached to a DIN A4 sheet) to the Information Centre Bio-Siegel. A notification form (PDF-Document, 69 KB) (only available in German) for registration is included in the Eco Labelling Regulation. The completed notification form can be sent to the Information Centre Bio-Siegel by fax, post or e-mail.

Online registration is also possible. After registering, the company will receive an e-mail with the login information enabling it to update its own entries or add further products for the use of the Bio-Siegel to the product list.

Only companies who are subject to the inspection procedures of the EU Organic Farming Regulation may label a product with the Bio-Siegel. Therefore the information provided for the product registration in accordance with the Eco Labelling Regulation (notification form) can be made available to the federal state authorities who are responsible for the supervision of organic farming for inspection purposes.
