Which products can be labelled?
All non-processed agricultural produce and all processed agricultural products for human consumption within the scope of the EU Organic Farming Regulation may be labelled. At least 95 percent of the agricultural ingredients in processed agricultural products must come from organic farming. The remaining ingredients of agricultural origin must be listed in Annex VI Part C of the EG Organic Farming Regulation.
Since the EU Organic Farming Regulation does not yet have any special rules for the production of wine the Bio-Siegel may only be used if the additional information "wine made from grapes from organic farming" (Wein aus Trauben aus ökologischem Anbau) or "wine made from organically grown grapes" (Wein aus ökologisch angebauten Trauben) is positioned in the immediate vicinity of the label.
Aquaculture products (e.g. fish or algae from fish farming) are not yet within the scope of the EU Organic Farming Regulation.
Products from hunting wild animals and from fishing are not subject to the EU Organic Farming Regulation. Pharmaceutical and cosmetic products are not covered by the EU Organic Farming Regulation either.
Food with added vitamins or minerals, processed feeding stuff as well as agricultural products which were produced during a company’s transition to organic farming must not be labelled with the Bio-Siegel.
Restaurants, staff canteens, etc. which are certified pursuant to the EU Organic Farming Regulation can also use the Bio-Siegel to label menus and single items on the menu.
