Terms of use

The Bio-Siegel may be used on packaging, advertising and promotion materials as well as for office application according to the Design Guidlines.

At present, the Bio-Siegel is the only organic or eco label in Germany protected by penal law. The use of this trademarked logo is regulated by the Eco Labelling Act (Öko-Kennzeichengesetz) (only available in German) and the Eco Labelling Regulation (Öko-Kennzeichenverordnung) (only available in German).

The Eco Labelling Act is based on the External Link EU Organic Farming Regulation – hence the added inscription "pursuant to EU Organic Farming Regulation" on the Bio-Siegel logo. The Eco Labelling Regulation rules such details as, for example, the design and use of the label as well as the mandatory registration for Bio-Siegel users.

Size and Rotation

The Bio-Siegel may be used on packaging, advertising and promotion materials as well as for office application as follows:

  • The Bio-Siegel is integrated into the packaging design and should be very visible. The minimum width is ten millimetres (between the left and right outer corner of the green frame). The maximum width is 33 mm. However, this maximum width can only be used if the font size of "Bio" in the Bio-Siegel is not bigger than 60 percent of the font size of the product name of the labelled produce. If the Bio-Siegel is at minimum size, this rule does not apply. The Bio-Siegel may be rotated to a maximum of 15 degrees.

  • The high definition printer files of the Bio-Siegel with an "eps" ending are vectorised files for programmes like Illustrator from version 9.

Please note: The white outline is an integral part of the Bio-Siegel!

Colours

1. Reproduction of the Bio-Siegel by four-colour printing

As a matter of principle, the Bio-Siegel has to be printed in four-colour. It has a white background and a white outline of the same width like the green frame. The white outline is an essential part of the Bio-Siegel!

2. Reproduction of the Bio-Siegel by two-colour printing

If four-colour printing is not possible for technical, economic or other reasons, the original colours of the Bio-Siegel can be composed by spot colours of the Pantone or HKS colour systems.

4. Reproduction without white background and white outline

The Bio-Siegel can also be used in case no white background and no white outline can be realized.

For the background and outline the respective ground is admissible (transparent).

5. Reproduction without 'under the EU Regulation on Organic Farming' writing

With some printing methods (e.g. flexoprinting), problems of readability can occur in case of small sizes. In these cases the "under the EU Regulation on Organic Farming" writing can be enlarged disproportionately. If this enlargement does not lead to a better readability, the writing can be omitted. However, regardless of such an omission the spatial relation of the text and graphic elements must not be modified. Consequently, the "Bio" writing is not to be placed into the centre of the logo.

Please note:

Other modifications of fonts, tonal values and forms which are going beyond the described applications are not permitted.
